Common questions

What counts as a "dead" link?
A link that returns an error status or times out when requested — most commonly a 404 Not Found, but also server errors and unreachable hosts.
Does checking a whole site crawl every page?
Whole-site mode follows internal links from the starting page to check more of a site at once, rather than checking just the one page you enter.
Are external links checked by default?
No — that's an opt-in checkbox. Checking links on other domains takes longer and depends on those sites' own availability, so it's off by default.
